What is an Optical Table with Honeycomb Breadboard?

An Optical Table with Honeycomb Breadboard is a specifically designed platform to isolate vibrations in sensitive techniques such as high-resolution microscopy, metrology, spectroscopy, nano-positioning etc. in the fields of photonics and optics. The specifically designed stiff optical tabletop significantly decreases the relative motion between the optical elements positioned on the surface of the optical top. The pneumatic isolators on the legs of the optical table keep the floor vibrations to minimum and limit the amplitude of vibrations at resonance.

What are the features of Optical Table?

  1. Pneumatic Isolators

Pneumatic Isolators minimise the floor vibrations and reduce the amplitude of vibration caused by resonance.

  1. High Dynamic Rigidity

An optical breadboard with high dynamic rigidity diverts vibrations from floor that may pass through pneumatic isolators. It also minimises vibrations from other external mechanical sources, as well as acoustic noise.

  1. High Static Rigidity

An optical breadboard with high static rigidity keeps the relative motion between the individual components placed on top of the optical table to a minimum, thereby, maintaining high system performance. High static rigidity also increases the natural frequency of the table top which prevents the simultaneous occurrence with low frequency vibrations that are not reduced by isolators.

Structure of Honeycomb Breadboard

  1. Corrugated honeycomb steel core

Research Grade Optical Breadboard has a stainless-steel top and carbon steel bottom and sidewalls. The core is comprised of layers of steel arranged in corrugated honeycomb fashion, vertically bonded using epoxy. This arrangement offers high density and smallest cell size of the core, yielding maximum dynamic and static rigidity.

  1. Small honeycomb core cells

Core of the DAEIL SYSTEMS optical tables has smallest honeycomb cell size – 2.9 cm2, leading to high elastic selection modulus and increased natural frequency of the table top. This yields a super rigid table top that minimises external vibrations. Steel construction also ensures long term thermal stability.

Construction of Honeycomb Breadboard

  1. Sealed Mounting Holes

Contamination of honeycomb core is prevented by individually sealing each mounting hole with non-corrosive, spill-proof nylon cups using epoxy.

  1. Ultra-clean table top surface

The surface of the table top is gently sanded to achieve a non- reflecting surface. Precise tapping is followed by meticulous cleaning to remove any residual metal particles and cutting fluids from the surface.

Non-magnetic Stainless Steel Optical Table Top

Non-magnetic stainless steel optical top is made up of 304 series non-magnetic stainless steel. These optical table tops are used in cleanrooms and in non-magnetic techniques.

Joined Optical Tables

Multiple optical tables can be joined end-to-end, side-to-side and/or side-to-end to form longer and wider tables of mixed configurations to better suit customers’ needs. Joined tables are manufactured as combination sets. Individual tables are delicately and precisely assembled, tested to confirm the specifications and shipped as dismantled tables for on-site assembly.
